South Korea’s Samsung Display is out to build an ecosystem in Taiwan, the home of IT industries, to expand the market for laptop OLED panels, the company said at the Samsung OLED forum in Taiwan on Nov. 7.
“Samsung Display’s OLED boasts qualities such as 압도적인 picture quality and high energy efficiency, making it possible to help change the dynamics of the high-end laptop market to provide a truly upgraded consumer experience,” said Kim Seong-cheol, vice president of Samsung Display’s small and mid-sized panel division.
Top laptop makers such as HP, Dell, Lenovo and Asus, along with ODM firms such as Compal, Quanta and Wistron attended the conference, with a total of 350 attending from 25 companies altogether.
In the third quarter of this year, Samsung Display shipped a total of 116,000 OLED panels for laptops, according to market research firm IHS Markit.
A total of 13 OLED-fitted laptops were introduced in the first half of this year from HP, Dell, Lenovo and Asus. Samsung Display supplied UHD panels measuring 13.3 inches, 15.6 inches. Next year, it plans to add 13.3-inch FHD(2K) OLEDs as well.
